SALTED HONEY AND FIG CHEESECAKE

I did it, I  made another faux cheesecake that I’m so excited about!  Remember this one topped with rhubarb? SO GOOD! This time I mixed up the recipe a bit and topped it with figs, drizzled honey over the top and then generously sprinkled with Maldon salt over every square inch.  HEAVEN. There are no words for how delicious it is.  I promise, I’m not just gratuitously thumping myself on the back here.  It’s mind blowingly good!  That combo of salty and sweet, it’s just insane.  So please, even if you never make another recipe from this blog again, make this.  And share it with your friends, they’ll probably gift you something in thanks. (PRESENTS!) Recipe and more after the jump!  xx- Sarah Click to read more

JOIE PANTS AND ALICE + OLIVIA STRIPED SHOE DREAMS

A girl can spend years, decades even, looking for her shoe soul mate, right?  I think I may have found mine. These striped beauties from Alice + Olivia are everything that I could want in a shoe- the perfect heel height, graphic stripes, pointy toes- I just LOVE them!  I decided for their debut look I’d pair them with an equally graphic outfit- black, white, leopard and a pop of red on my lips.  Classic, in my opinion, and a perfect start to wearing these shoes into the ground.  xx- Sarah {more after the jump}

CARROT NOODLES IN PEANUT SAUCE

If it’s possible to be addicted to noodles, than I nominate myself to be President of Noodleaholics Anonymous. Lately I’ve been noodlizing (yep, made that word up myself) every vegetable I can get my happy little paws on. And carrot noodles have been a fast favorite.  Add a peanut sauce, some fresh lime juice, maybe a little heat with red pepper flakes or Siracha and you have a noodleaholics crack.  No shame in my game, because these kind of noodles are pumped full of vitamins, anti-oxidants and other goodness that punch cancer and heart disease in the face.  100% HEALTHY NOODLES MY FRIENDS!  So have at them.  xx- Sarah {more after the jump}

VACATION STYLE: BIG BEAR LAKE EDITION

I had this vision of an epic photo of Bean and I, mother and daughter, smiling at the camera with the lake and sunset behind us.  But apparently, Bean had her own ideas.  And standing with her back to the lake WAS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN {MOM!}. And we were losing light fast.  So instead, I have these.  Great reminders that Bean has a mind and will of her own, and that I should always, ALWAYS carry treats.

BIG BEAR LAKE ADVENTURES

The getaway we took to Big Bear Lake to celebrate my birthday was all that I could have asked for- a family adventure that satisfied my soul.  We’re soaking up these last weeks of summer with everything we’ve got!  More of our vacation snaps after the jump, if you’d care to see!  XX- Sarah

We rented a pontoon boat for a couple hours of fun on the lake!  It was so easy to drive and we were able to see the entire lake, spend some time drifting in the middle of the lake with the engine off and if it hadn’t been so windy we would’ve snuck in a swim.  Next time I think we’ll pack a picnic lunch and tack on a couple more hours. We’re already plotting a trip back with some friends, and I’ve got hopes of giving stand up paddle boarding a go!

We started our day with an early morning hike and had the trail to ourselves!  Bean went ape.  She loves nothing more than running amuck in the woods.  And Nugget was a short legged champ, she refuses to let a little thing like her small stature stop her from fully enjoying the great outdoors.  Family hikes are the best!

Our first night in Big Bear we watched the sun set over the lake.  Nothing beats fresh air, a sunset, and the quiet that only a sleepy little mountain town can provide.  Big Bear, you have our hearts.  Hope to see you again soon!

CAULIFLOWER PIZZA PARTY ON WEST ELM’S BLOG

Happy Friday everyone!  I’m so excited to be sharing my recipe for cauliflower pizza crust on West Elm’s blog today!  It was a recipe that wasn’t easy to come by.  My failed attempts were, well, inedible AT BEST.  But when I finally got it right it was so worth the effort!  Gluten free pizza crust that is healthy, delicious (Lou approved even!), and easy to make. So head over and check it out!  And while you’re there, take a peak at their new line of kitchenware, so much goodness to be had!  Hope you love.  xx- Sarah
