a friendly reminder

your value does not lie in your career success, the width of your thighs, the amount/quality of things in your home or closet.  if you’re reading blogs and comparing your life to others, you’re losing ground on the road to happiness. let those who choose to share act as an inspiration, not a comparison point. remember: true happiness isn’t found in the superficial! {i know, so cliche but i tried to find a tupac quote with the same message and came up short}.

this post was inspired by this series on creature comforts.  i read through a bunch of the response posts and was reminded that we all suffer from the same basic problem: we think we’re not enough.  we color it a million different ways, but it always comes back to that. so, i’d like to remind you, you ARE enough. right this minute, exactly as you are. even before you grow your career to where to aspire it to, or lose 10 lbs, or decorate your house, or wrangle your children into well behaved munchkins.  right this minute, you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. just keep reminding yourself and i’ll do the same. and yes, i just got all deepak chopra on your asses.  good day to you.  xoxo

Hear hear. Love this simple rounding up of the series. I too have read a few of those posts and found it really enlightening that even the bigger bloggers share our insecurities. Love your thoughts!

Thank you for that. I think it's so easy for us & myself to do this. I went to a good soul the other day & she told me the same thing. To have self-worth. Have joy in my heart. Its so true, we control ourselves & we need to get out of our own way. You can get "deepak chopra" on here anytime. It comes from your heart!

Hi, I've only just found your blog so I'm reading for the first time. I have just cried my way through the pages about crohns disease and the post from January with the video about Marisa. I have so many digestive problems I sometimes feel desperately sad and I have no idea what to do. Thank you so much for highlighting this issue. I have ordered the macrobiotic book you recommend and will be bringing this up with my doctor on my upcoming appointment – another in a long line of them, trying to get some answers about why I am always unwell. Sincerely, thank you. Jo x

First of all: I just found your blog today, and it is lovely. Second, I am amazed so many bloggers are touching on this lately- it's so important: these words need to be said. I'm actually saving the link to this post so I can mention you in a post I have coming around the bend: I'm collecting similar sentiments everytime I see it! Thank you for the positivity!

Have you seen the documentary, I Am? If not, you should check it out. It shares a similar message and it's very inspiring.

I love that you said, "You're exactly where you're supposed to be." Those came as comforting words to me. I just graduated college yesterday and I'm taking the year off, but then I feel horrible because everyone else is out there looking for jobs or have jobs already and I'm not doing that. I feel like I should also be looking for a job, but I don't want to just yet. 6 years of college and I need a break. So it came to me that those words are for me. I'm me and I shouldn't be doing what everyone else is doing or comparing myself to my classmates. I should be me and do what I want to do 🙂 and right now I'm doing just that.

Sarah, where are you now? I see the last post was May 2012. I’m trying to accept your lovely message because in my heart I know you are correct. Yes–there is a “however” rolling across my lips. I want to feel that I am where I’m supposed to be right now. However–due to putting my self “last” in a marriage of 40 years that ended with an abrupt walk-out (he had 2-year online affair) while I was too ill to even get an attorney–I am mostly broke, in the worst health ever, renting a moldy, smokey place after being a homeowner for 35 years, my rental is being sold, too sick to move and too sick to remain in this moldy building, seem to have residual brain/neurological problems from a doctor keeping me on a bad med combo after loosing down to 95 pounds, etc. etc. Frankly, I have a problem with accepting this is where I am supposed to be–because I’m definitely not okay. Struggling with Medicare which denies most everything that’s really needed–I don’t see a way out unless my prayers do get answered and a true miracle awaits me. I’m at the bottom of the abyss trying to see a ray of light. Perhaps I’ve taken what you were really trying to say out of context. One thing rings true though: Not one bedazzled fancy anything means diddly when a person is this low! I would be so grateful to have something to live in till the final hour–something I don’t have to keep being forced out of. He robbed me of the “home” I worked so hard to maintain for all those years–even lived in the 50 % unfinished house he wouldn’t finish as “contractor” for 11 years — believing that he would eventually make good on his promise. This old fool would appreciate hearing from anyone who might want to share something encouraging!

A lot more than 30% of Brits say their mum is the most inspirational person in their life. Mother’s Day is typically a celebration to see and commemorate mums, grandmothers and step-mums with blooms, breakfast during intercourse, gifts and credit cards.
