La Crema Virtual Vintner

LA_CREMA_CHARDONAY__a_house_in_the_hills-7

Happy Monday everyone!  Today I’m partnering with La Crema to share a recipe in celebration of the launch of their new program Virtual Vintner, a choose-your-own-adventure experience that brings wine lovers together to produce a community created wine.  It’s a fun way to learn about the process of wine making and be involved in every decision that goes into producing a vintage, and I love that at the end the wine will be available for purchase!  Participants are asked to choose their favorite varietal as the starting point, so La Crema asked that I choose mine and come up with a recipe to go with it!  I chose Chardonay because I love the way it pairs with a pesto dish in the Summer (I cannot get enough pesto, ever).  Since I’m clean eating this month I replaced my regular GF pasta noodles with zucchini noodles and tossed in the freshest of Summer vegetables and herbs to make this dish.  Perfectly light and healthy fare for the hot temps we’re having, I hope you love it as much as I do!  xx- Sarah

Roasted Yellow Tomato Soup

roated_tomato_soup__a_house_in_the_hills-1

As you might have seen here,  I’m the benefactor of a huge pile of tomatoes from a friend’s garden.  Lucky me!! I kind of agonized over how to eat them, wanting to make the most of my big win.  In the end I decided to roast a bunch of the yellow ones for this soup.  A soup I enjoyed both hot and cold, which was a big bonus (I love when leftovers can be reimagined!)  This soup is the simplest, but full of flavor from the tomatoes, it just tastes like Summer!  I also enjoyed quite a few of the juicy yellow tomatoes like this, but with a pile of avocado on top. Ahhh, tomato season, it’s almost as good as Christmas cookie season in my opinion!!  Happy Summer eating!  xx- Sarah

Happy Monday everyone!  For those of you joining me in a month of clean eating, how are you feeling?  Any questions or bumps in the road I can help with?  If you haven’t started yet it’s never too late!  A pal of mine who’s committed to the month texted over the weekend asking for breakfast suggestions, which is the inspiration behind this post.  She’s busy in the mornings with her workout and getting ready for the day ahead, so these are the perfect solution!  Make a batch Sunday night (soak all day Sunday instead of overnight) and you’ll have breakfasts for almost the entire work week!  They’re so satisfying too.  And since they’re full of protein, fiber and healthy fat they’ll keep you energized for hours.  I’m obsessed!  Hope you love!  xx- Sarah {ps- I’ll be sharing random clean eating inspiration on my instagram all month long, and if you’re inclined I’d love to see what you’re eating- use #eatcleanaugust to share!}

Eat Clean August : Recipes

eat_clean_august_a_house_in_the_hills_3

I am SO excited that so many of you want to join me in this commitment to eat healthy, delicious, amazing-for-your-body food for the month of August!  Of course the goal would be to parlay it into a lifestyle change and eat less cookies and processed foods in general, but I like to focus on small attainable goals.  I know that for this month I can resist cookies and embrace the vegetables that I love so much!  I also know that at the end of it I’ll be back to my clean-eating-on-the-regular ways and will be FAR less tempted to whip up a batch of sweet treats.  Eating healthier is much easier when it’s a consistent habit and sometimes it takes (at least for me) a commitment like this to get my habit back into place.  Without further ado… here are 25 of my personal favorite recipes to get your started (and a bonus Pinterest board where I’ll be adding more all month long!).  All recipes are free and clear of sweeteners, processed foods, and the rest of the junk we’re leaving behind in July.  Most importantly they’re all so tasty you won’t miss anything.  Hallelujah!  Enjoy and have such a good weekend everyone!  xx- Sarah  {recipe list after the jump}

Heirloom Tomato Bruschetta

Have I told you about my love of heirloom tomatoes and how I dream of someday moving to Greece (or Italy) and spending my days growing the most luscious varieties of tomatoes?  That smell that your fingers takes on when you pluck one from a plant- it’s my favorite!  It’s the epitome of Summer for me, that smell, and a juicy bite into a warm, fresh tomato.  I always think I can taste the sun and the air and the earth.  They’re heavenly.  And I prefer to eat them with the simplest preparation, like these sweet little bruschetta!  I hope you love as much as I do.  xx- Sarah

Acai Parfait

Are you completely exhausted of me being all “OMG THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER” about every recipe I post?  Me too!  But THIS ONE!  This one really is the best thing ever!  Or maybe, just maybe, I’m just obsessed with putting things in my mouth that taste amazing.  And that, combined with my tendencies to over-excite, lead me to make wild claims about everything delicious my mouth touches.  I don’t know.  I suppose you’ll just have to make this and judge for yourself.  You long-suffering recipe makers, I love you so!  xx- Sarah
