Boozy Watermelon Coconut Refresher

Oh man, you need to find the nearest pool on the sunniest day and you need to make yourself one of these.  Maybe three.  You need to sit back, feel the sun hitting your skin, notice a breeze and take a sip.  You will be transported.  You’ll think you’re on a tropical island and happiness will start to overwhelm you.  I promise.  You’ll also fall in love with tequila all over again, a love affair that if you’re not careful can get you into trouble but shouldn’t be neglected.  Oh yes, oh yes indeed.  SUMMER!!!  xx- Sarah  {this post was produced in collaboration with Sarah Dickenson for A House in the Hills}

Green Onion and Pea Risotto (GF + Vegan)

pea_green_onion_risotto_a_house_in_the_hills-11

I bought a bag of shelled peas at the Farmers market and then agonized like a girl over a prom dress about the best way to eat them.  Do you do that too or is it a special kind of crazy?  There’s a limited selection of veggies in the desert so something like a bag of fresh peas can really send me over the edge and get my neurotic juices flowing!  Mmmmm, but risotto with fresh peas- it was totally a happy dance in the kitchen moment when I had my first bite!  If you’re in the market for an easy weeknight dinner that celebrates summer, well here you go, I made this for you.  xx- Sarah

A dress that is essentially a silky oversized tee shirt that you can eat 5 slices of pizza and still look cute in is MY KIND OF DRESS!  I mean, really- this pattern, the fabric, the colors, the fit.  So good!  Three cheers to loose dresses and pizza in the Summer!  xx- Sarah

Happy Monday- I hope you all had an amazing weekend!  I’m in full on Summer-mode with air-dried hair, a solid tan (plus a million freckles), and a laissez faire attitude about my days.  I want to squeeze as much summery goodness into the next couple of months and these lemon shandys are high on the list.  They are SO tasty!!!   And aren’t these glasses so adorable?  Another amazing find by Farra!  Hope you love these as much as I do!  xx- Sarah  {This post was produced in collaboration with Sarah Dickenson for A House in the Hills}

Peach and Nectarine Crisps (Vegan + GF)

peach_nectarine_crisps_a_house_in_the_hills-2

There are few things I’d be excited to turn my oven on for when it’s 114 degrees (for those who aren’t familiar with the fahrenheit/celsius conversion 114 degrees is basically the temperature of a frying pan, or the surface of the sun).  That said, I would walk barefoot and naked through the desert with no water for a good 45 minutes in 114 degrees if it meant at the end I could have these crisps (with a big glass of ice water, naturally).  You’ll be relieved to know that I did not have to!!  But they’re that good and I’ll be damned if I don’t fully enjoy stone fruit season the way nature intended me to just because of a bit of heat!  And aren’t these mini pots the cutest thing ever?  Such a fun way to serve dessert to guests.  Happy weekend all!  xx- Sarah

Well Hey Now Maxi Skirt

issa_maxi_skirt_a_house_in_the_hills-1

We made it to Thursday!  Or at least that’s how I’m feeling this week (insert worried emoji face here).  Lou and I both got sick with colds a couple of weeks ago, and then that turned into bronchitis for both of us.  Our acupuncturist said that the emotion associated with the lungs is grief, so that’s why our bodies weren’t able to shake this little bug off the way they should have been.  Crazy, right?  I’ve never had bronchitis before, and it’s unusual to get it in the middle of the summer (and especially in the desert!), so it makes sense to me.  We’re finally getting back to normal but I feel like we’ve been in survival mode for days!  Last night we ventured out for our first date night in forever, and it was amazing to be out and about!   All of that is neither here nor there, because this is really about this amazing high-waisted maxi skirt that I ordered a few weeks back when Shopbop had their amazing sale on sale deal going on (I kind of live for those 25% off sale items days)!  I think we’re soulmates.  xx- Sarah
