Fighting The Good Fight

I’m officially THE GIRL WHO CRIED FAVORITE JEANS EVER.  I know.  Trust me, it’s not lost on me that once a month I post saying I’ve found them, the true answer to all my denim questions.  And that one month later I’ve found another pair.  These are good problems to have, that’s not lost on me either. But for reals.  THESE JEANS.  In fact, J.Crew, I would like to publicly thank you for the Point Sur denim line- it’s blowing my mind.  Thank you, thank you thank you thank you.  But don’t you all worry, in spite of my claim that these truly are the BEST pair of jeans I’ve ever worn, I will continue the hunt for a better pair!  Fighting the good fight for you my friends, I’m all about it.  xx- Sarah

Charming Country Modern

79ideas_dining_area_with_the_kitchen

Sometimes I dream about living in a charming country house!  We’ve done mid century in LA, modern in Palm Springs, Spanish in San Diego- maybe next will be a modern farmhouse in Ojai?!  I’M JUST PUTTING IT OUT THERE.  Also, is there a moveaholics anonymous?  Because I recognize the absolute CRAZY that is me talking about farmhouses in Ojai when we JUST landed in our Spanish San Diego home.  My name is Sarah and I’m addicted to moving and decorating.  There.  Just saying it absolves me from all of the implications, right?  Right.  Ok now, enjoy this farmhouse and please speak up and remind me of this convo if I mention a move in 2-3 years!  I would like to stay sane/married/near friends/etc.  xx- Sarah  {images via}

J. McLaughlin Spring Lookbook

sarah_yates_A_House_in_the_hills_jmclaughlin-349873

I recently had the opportunity to head up to Malibu to hang out on set while J.McLaughlin and their team photographed their Spring lookbook!  It’s so fun to be on set and then see the results down the road when the final images come through, so I was pretty much giddy when they sent along the lookbook!  And, as expected, I love it.  Take a peek at some of my favorites from the shoot below!

I’m also loving the colorful dress and beachy look I’m wearing in these photos (striped bag here).  Someone please invite me to a party in the Hamptons!  Or a wedding.  I can make it work for either.  And until then I’ll just be wearing it around town running errands and to the beach when I sneak out of the office early!   Ok, check out the lookbook photos below, pop over to J.McLaughlin to refresh your spring wardrobe and use promo code JMCLHILLS to receive 15% off your order now through April 29th!  Happy shopping my friends!  xx- Sarah

Show Stoppin Shoes and Bags

sarah_yates_A_House_in_the_hills_meli_melo-349875

Closet changers.  That’s what I call these shoes and this bag.  They  just turned my ordinary jeans and tee into an outfit I wanna wear every single day!  And these jeans, you may remember them from here and quite a few other posts.  Thev’ve been a long time favorite.  I just had them tailored to freshen them up for a new look.  Sometimes I go through my closet and re-imagine pieces- what would this skirt look like if it were shorter, or this pant if it was cropped- and then I bring em to my tailor and come home feeling like I have a new wardrobe!  It’s a relatively inexpensive way for a quick refresh!  Have a great day my friends!  xx- Sarah

Chocolate Pecan Cashew Butter + Thrive Market GIVEAWAY!

sarah_yates_A_House_in_the_hills_thrive_market-349874

Happy Monday my friends!  Hope you all had great weekends!  On Sunday I finished up the second week of my pal January‘s Sugar Detox (she has another starting May 4th and it’s an online thing, so I highly recommend for any of you looking to learn more about nutrition and get those sugar cravings under control!)  One of the things I craved during the two weeks sugar-free was these flavored nut butters that I used to buy at a rad little raw restaurant in San Diego before we moved to LA (pre- Palm Springs as well).  I’m not sure what all was in them because I didn’t pay much attention to nutrition labels at the time, but I LOVED them!  S0, I decided to make my own!  This chocolate pecan cashew butter is the perfect thing for me to grab a spoonful of when I get a sweets craving- the protein and good fats in the nuts satisfies my body while the cacao and coconut nectar satisfy my love of sweets!

OK, now for the second part of this post- I am SO EXCITED to introduce you all to Thrive Market.  I know that I sometimes post recipes that have ingredients that you can’t get your hands on (it’s horrifying to me that you can 100% guaranteed find Cheetos in any town across the country but in many cacao powder is hard to come by).  It’s also extremely frustrating that economically speaking the high quality, healthy and nutrition driven ingredients that I use are often inaccessible to many.  Like CRAZY-MAKING I MIGHT SCREAM MADDENING!  Which is why I’m so excited!

Thrive Market addresses both of those issues by making high quality ingredients available online at 25-50% off traditional retail prices- similar to Coscto they charge an annual $60 membership fee that enables them to offer these massive discounts.  With free shipping on orders over $49 and thousands of products to shop- it’s absolutely where I’ll be stocking up on all of my pantry items!  And with each membership sign-up they give one to a low income family or public school teacher (through a network of non-profits). THAT IS MY KIND OF COMPANY!   So I just wanted to give you a heads up- if you don’t live in a town that has a Whole Foods or health food store, if it hurts a little every time you check out at your market and see the receipt, if you’re as frustrated as I am that you can find Cheetos everywhere but have to search like an online ninja to find health foods- well, Thrive Market is for you.  I promise, you’re gonna love it!

AND, AND AND AND!   They’re offering one lucky reader a $250 shopping spree!  Register for Thrive here over the next 7 days and one of you lucky ducks will win that while 10 others will receive free year long memberships! HORRAY!  And good luck my friends!   xx- Sarah

TGIF! And Some Links….

Happy Friday my friends!  I feel like a broken record when I say that life is crazy and we’re in the middle of a storm every week- but it’s true!  This week we’ve been dealing with Nugget who somehow injured her neck? hips? back?  We’re not entirely sure but she requires pain meds and muscle relaxers every 8 hours so we’ve been on this crazy schedule of waking up at 3 am to give her medication, and hand feeding her, and carrying her to and from every room we’re in so she doesn’t miss us and doesn’t move around too much, etc.  Those of you who have gone through dog- health issues know what I’m talking about- it’s pretty much torture when they’re in pain and you can’t fix it.  And really, there’s NOTHING I wouldn’t do for that little bundle of love.  So this weekend we’ll be cozying up with Nugget, nursing her back to health, cooking up a recipe for you for next week and daydreaming about Bali.  I’m also hoping to squeeze in a nap!  I hope you have equally delicious and relaxing plans on the books!  xx- Sarah
