weekend entertainment

hi friends!  as you can probably tell from this late posting it’s been quite the week.  for my weekend i’m looking forward to some family / pool time, making a quick trip into LA to meet our friend’s new baby and going for a hike with my little sister.  what’s on your agenda?  here’s some internet pleasure for sunday morning…in the event you’re not in the throes of an egg hunt of course.  have a great one!  xx- sarah   {more after the jump}

speaking of pancakes..are you looking for the perfect recipe for an easter brunch?

pretty, inspirational, fun.  well played fashion edit, well played.

if you like all things birds of a feather and wedding related, this just happened!

your weekly dose of cute.  prepare to melt into a giant puddle.

add this to the list of things i fantasize about and would consider selling 8% of my soul to call my own.

and add this to the list of things i’ll probably get without selling any of my soul.

OMG!  i know it’s kind of wrong but i secretly wish this was happening to me. #twinfantasies

a color explosion i am so loving!

we haven’t discussed this yet but it’s been on my mind: what do you think of the wedge sneaker trend?

lou and i will be going to this in april- would love to meet you there if you can make it!

if eggs were our thing we’d be all over this!

my friend amanda’s home tour is bananas pretty!  she is such a babe.

SHAMPOO FREE PROGRESS UPDATE

i’m a little over a week into this product-free experiment so i thought i’d check in with some updates.  so far, so great!  i’m loving it. i’ve done three baking soda washes in the past eight days or so, and one apple cider vinegar rinse.  my hair seems to be improving by the day- it’s less frizzy (but also not greasy), it’s not tangling up the way it usually does and i can’t lie- i absolutely love how low maintenance it is.  most days i just rinse it in the shower, towel dry, blow dry my bangs and i’m set for the day!  a far cry from the shampoo-condition-leave in conditioning spray-blow dry-moroccan oil rigamarole i’m used to!  {more after the jump}

i’m having a harder time getting behind the apple cider vinegar rinse.  after my hair dries the smell goes away, but it comes back in full force every time it gets even the tiniest bit wet.  and smelling like a weird pickle while conquering the treadmill at the gym is not my idea of cute.  so i haven’t used the vinegar rinse since that one time.  i have added a little bit of (unrefined) coconut oil to the ends a couple of times, to give them some love. and i ordered the fancy mason pearson brush to help distribute the natural oils from my scalp.  it was a definite splurge but i know i was spending that much on hair products every few months anyway.  and all the reviews say it’ll last a lifetime with the right care.

lastly, in this quest to grow mermaid hair, i’m taking these prenatal vitamins.  have you heard? they’re supposed to help your hair and nails grow faster/stronger.  i’m not sure i’m sold yet, but i also don’t mind the idea of a daily dose of goodness.  do you have any other tips or tricks for achieving mermaid hair status?  (meanwhile, this is still happening!)

macaroons, two ways!

my sweet tooth got the best of me this week, two ways!  i had this wild craving for a sweet, chewy macaroon but was also dreaming about jam-y coconut cookies (is that even a thing?).  and chocolate. alas, there would be no settling in this equation, i needed all three.  and so: macaroons two ways!  it took me a couple batches to get the proportions of everything right, to achieve the sweet sticky goodness of the macaroons i remember (without eggs).  but i did it and it was so worth all of the laborious taste-testing (ha!). i also used the leftover chocolate for dipping strawberries.  i may or may not have gained five pounds in the making of this post.  you’re welcome!  xx- sarah  {more after the jump}

menswear revisited

last spring I went through a menswear style phase (seen here and here).  and this spring, just like tulips, it’s back!  so of course, as any reasonable lady would, i raided lou’s closet.  his striped dress shirt is perfect with my skinnies and shoemint flats (don’t you love that cap toe detail?!).  and that’s his bag too.  i’m obsessed.

SHOP OUTFIT:  pants: c/o AOS, shirt: modern amusement,  shoes: c/o shoemint (discount code for new members: RACHEL20), hat: goorin bros, bag: filson watch: marc jacobs necklace: vintage

cucumber noodles in peanut sauce

i know that for many of you are still fighting through winter weather, but we’ve been having a heat wave (or maybe this is normal for the desert?) and i’ve been craving light, vegetable based meals.  although having eaten this twice this week, i have to admit i’d probably eat it in the snow too.  i’d just pair it with a bowl of miso soup to warm me at the end.  i hope you love it as much as i do!  xx- sarah   {recipe after the jump}

Olivia!

phew, what a week!  i’ve been putting in crazy hours, so i’m really looking forward to taking a little time for relaxing this weekend.  i’ll be hanging out by the pool, catching up on magazines, going on extra long dog walks, and cooking up some yummy food.  that’s my plan!  what’s yours?   hope you have a great one!  as promised, sunday morning fodder after the jump.  xx -sarah
