BIRDS OF A FEATHER GET TOGETHER!

I’ve shared a couple of our past Birds of a Feather get togethers (here and here) and am so excited to share another!  Rebecca hosted us at her cozy home in Silverlake and prepared this epic Middle Eastern feast for us. I think it’s obvious, Rebecca is a badass in the kitchen.  I love it!  The best part- she was kind enough to pass along her recipes (all vegan!) and I’ve included them all after the jump.  The tahini cookies are so good I can’t stand myself.  Hip Hip!  Hope you enjoy!  xx- Sarah  {photos via Birds of a Feather}

A LOOK BACK- SOME FAVORITE RECIPES OF 2013

Happy Monday everyone!  I’m waking up with a very full belly after a night of enjoying these!  Oh, the holidays are so amazing!  I’m celebrating straight through to the first, then it will be an enormous green juice to start the new year off and I’ll tuck away the giant bag of sugar that’s been such a star in my kitchen this week.  What about you?  Any new year food plans?  I’ve rounded up some of my favorite A House in the Hills recipes after the jump. Hope you enjoy looking back with me and find inspiration for a healthy and delicious 2014!  xx- Sarah

Parsnip Celery Root Mash with Beluga Lentils and Roasted Carrots

Are you ready to get back to healthy eating or are you on a holiday goodies bender waiting for the New Year before a carrot sneaks into your dinner?  I’ve made polenta pizza twice this week (my version of indulgence). And this.  It’s kind of sneaky-healthy because the mash feels indulgent but the meal in it’s entirety is very nutritious and balanced.  A nice transitional meal to get back into the space where a heaping pile of garlicky sauteed kale sounds like a treat again.  Or maybe you’re holding out until the new year and getting in as many cookies as possible until then!  That’s ok too.  These carrots will be waiting for you whenever the time is right.  xx- Sarah {more after the jump}

WILTED KALE AND ROASTED POTATO SALAD

If you’re looking to sneak a healthy meal in between all the indulgence but not willing to sacrifice big taste, this warm salad is exactly what you need!  With hearty roasted potatoes, caramelized shallots and wilted dinosaur kale the salad is so delicious and satisfying that you’ll forget that things like Christmas cookies even exist.  At least for a quick minute.   I hope you love!  xx- Sarah  {more after the jump}

MANGO RASPBERRY BELLINIS

I don’t often share cocktail recipes around here because the truth is I just don’t drink that much.  But today I’m sharing a recipe for Mango Raspberry Bellinis.  Lou and I will be drinking these on Christmas morning. It’s part of what makes our holiday magical!  Every Christmas morning we eat Patacones (a friend plantain recipe from his mother) and drink too much champagne. Then we nap, hard.  IT IS THE BEST THING EVER!!!  What are your Christmas morning traditions?  I’d like to add another to our mix!  xx- Sarah  {recipe and more after the jump}

BREAKFAST TACOS

Technically these tacos can be eaten any time of day, but I love them most in the morning.  Or, more specifically, for brunch.  Sunday morning brunch.  And if you should enjoy them with a Blood Mary I wouldn’t judge!  They have kale in them, which pretty much means you are immediately the patron saint of nutrition when you eat them.  AND THEY ARE TACOS!  It’s brilliant, I’m telling you.  Make them.  You will love them, I promise.  xx- Sarah
