girls brunch- birds of a feather get together

hi everyone!  i'm so excited to share something that i think is super fun today. the week before last i had the girls over for a birds of a feather meeting, and i thought it was the perfect opportunity to have a great meal, catch up with each other and have some fun in the kitchen! i LOVE putting together something like this- from decorating the table to planning my perfect menu for the occasion. so today i'm sharing all the details. it's a great time of year to gather your girls around you and celebrate with a tasty brunch! more after the jump..

one of my favorite things to do for centerpieces is to use the seasons most beautiful produce- in this case a display of pomegranates, kaboucha squash, gourds, complimented with leaves from the flowers i used to decorate the table and a few little berries purchased at the market.  i love how organic and un-fussy it is, perfect for a fall brunch!

i used my favorite napkins from anthropologie, gold flatware (some gold flatware on sale at west elm here- enter code buy2save at checkout), vintage number glasses i found on etsy, and these jonathan adler vases (1, 2) for a single stem flower on either side of the center piece.  on the plates i used the rest of the leaves and berries from the market find. little bowls with tiny wooden spoons held home-made fig jam that one of the girls brought and apple butter (both to put on the sweet potato and parsnip latkes!)

a big vase of cucumber water in a vintage vase that was gifted to me by a sweet friend kept us all refreshed and happy.  these are the little touches that to me, make it feel just a little bit more like a celebration!

and now, for the best part- the food!  i served a kale salad with tamari toasted walnuts, home-made pickled red onion, and granny smith apples with a maple dijon dressing, sweet potato and parsnip latkes, and roasted brussel sprouts with cranberries, toasted almonds and shallots.  it was perfectly seasonal, colorful and yummy!  best of all, it was easy to prepare (although i have to admit i had a little bit of a tough time with the latkes, but nothing a little practice won't fix). unfortunately i was too flustered trying to get everything prepared in time to write down the recipes, so will have to re-make and post soon!  stay tuned.... (and i hope you liked, if so i'd love to do more of these types of posts in the future!)

gorgeous! i love to see how real people style tables! i CANNOT wait till we have a house so we can set a table vs. crowding our current method of crowding everything around our island in our apt!

would love the sweet potato/parsnip latke recipe!
