a house in the hills is getting a makeover!

Friday 11.09.12

hi everyone!  thanks so much for your rad comments in the radisson hotel giveaway, i read them all.  it was so great to get a peek into your lives and read where you’d go and why!  there were also some stories that really pulled at my heart strings, i’m so grateful this was a random contest and not something where i’d have to choose!  the winner has been chosen and notified.  hopefully i’ll have more opportunities like this in the near future for those of you who didn’t win.

on another  note, i have exciting news!  i’ve been working with the amazingly talented aileen cheng on a blog re-design.  we’re going to make this place easier to navigate, better to look at and add in a few new features to improve it overall. below is a sneak peek, the  new logo!  since we technically don’t live in the hills anymore, but i still have attachments to the name and the idea behind it, i wanted a new interpretation that better reflects where we’re at.  aileen, you’re incredible.  the logo is beyond what i could’ve hoped for, especially with the random mess of inspiration i gave you.  how you manage to crawl inside my brain and produce exactly what (even when i have no idea what that is) is really incredible. thank you a million times over.  blog friends, i hope you like it, i can’t wait until you see the rest!

I'm curious why you chose that image for your redesign. I just recently went to a conference with a keynote speaker who spoke extensively about appropriation of native american symbols (his name is Ariel Luckey and he's an amazing performer/poet-check him out!) so it interesting that this would come up just as I'm returning from my trip!

thanks so much everyone, so happy you love it as much as i do!
@ashley- how cool, i bet that was fascinating! googling ariel luckey now…

i chose it because i wanted the home symbol to not be so literal (ie: a house with a triangle roof). you can read more about my colorful history of different homes here: http://www.ahouseinthehills.com/ahouseinthehills/2012/7/17/what-a-house-means-to-me.html
i also loved the graphic appearance of the teepee and am always a huge fan of triangles. i'm also obsessed with things that feel like summer camp, and for me this logo has that feeling. so there were a lot of reasons, hope that answers your question!
