SASSY BOOTIES, I HEART YOU

i’m not quitting booties just because it’s summer, no ma’am!  i’m just switching them up.  going from black to taupe and loving it!  at heart i think i’ll always be a jeans and tee kinda gal but if i can find a way to fancy it up a bit (like, with boots that sparkle) i am TOTALLY ON IT!  xx

SPINACH, BEET AND QUINOA SALAD

i think sometimes i forget how FREAKING BEAUTIFUL whole foods are.  i mean, look at this plate?!  it’s gorgeous right?  and so simple, packed full of nutrition and flavor.  beats the hell (no pun intended) out of some processed crap that comes out of a box (not sorry kraft).  so let’s do this friends, let’s eat more meals that look like this and none meals that look like this.  ok?  good.  i’m so glad we’re on the same page!

SUMMER STYLE, NEON AND CHAMBRAY

remember when i said that a chambray shirt is an absolute necessity in a closet?  this outfit is a perfect example of why.  it’s the ideal item to layer over a neon mara hoffman dress that is probably a bit pricey if you’re only going to get one look out of it.  but, add a magic chambray shirt and VOILA!  an entirely different outfit. the chambray tones down the neon, gives it a casual vibe, looks great with lipstick.  and now, i pat myself on the back.  i finally found the right rationalization for adding this dress to my closet.  see how that’s done?  xx- sarah

THE PERFECT SUMMER SALAD

our amazing and talented friends juan and farra helped with the food for lou’s birthday party (god i love them!).  and when i was in panic mode and couldn’t come up with an idea for a salad to serve with tacos they suggested a watermelon, watercress, pepita and cotija salad with a lime cilantro vinaigrette.  genius, right?  i left out the cotija to keep it dairy free but it’s amazing with or without. light, refreshing, healthy, full of flavor and so easy to throw together!  what else could you want from a summer salad?  hope you love as much as i do. more after the jump!  xx- sarah

getting really personal

as i mentioned on friday we had our first big party at the house to celebrate lou’s birthday yesterday.  it was one for the record books.  it was the first time we’ve had so many of our friends from different parts and times in our life all in one place.  our friends came from all over the country to celebrate with us and it filled me with this overwhelming sense of love and family.  today i’m left with a lot of bruises, a bit of a hangover, a million amazing memories and a heart so full that it feels like it could burst.  in my survey you asked to see a bit more of our personal life, and while this may not be EXACTLY what you had in mind, i hope it at least gives you a smile.  one of lou’s birthday wishes was to have this moment, him on the swan and whichever guests were willing gathered around as he sprayed us all with champagne.  i was skeptical, but i have to say it was pure magic!  xx- sarah (video by our friend brian who also did our wedding video!)

FRIDAY LINKS

it’s a miracle that i’m getting this up before sunday!  as usual i grossly underestimated what it would take to throw a birthday party for lou and have been scrambling around all day trying to get it all together!  but, here goes…weekend entertainment after the jump! wishing you a summery weekend with great food, friends and lots and lots of laughs.  xx- sarah
