HOLIDAY SHOPPING HAS COMMENCED!

I always try to resist, but my holiday shopping tends to escalate into a “One for you, One for me” situation quicker than I can say SANTA!  So when Levi’s asked me to share some of my holiday picks, well, I ended up with a couple for myself.   In the spirit of this “One for you, One for me” holiday shopping technique, I’ve rounded up some things I think would be great as gifts- for you, for me, for everyone in between!  Click through on the image to shop any of the items above, and click through to see how I styled the jeans and blouse after the jump. Happy holiday shopping!  xx- Sarah  ** This post was brought to you by Levi’s and as always, I’m grateful for your support of the sponsors that help keep A House in the Hills going!

HOUSE UPDATE: THE HALLWAY!

I love decorating the little spaces in a house as much as the big spaces.  Creating a pretty something to look at in the hallway, a vignette on a patio, sprucing up a corner of a room that could easily be left un-decorated… I LOVE IT ALL!  We recently a plant and a black and white photo to our hallway, keeping it simple and sweet.  But it’s amazing how much more lived in the house feels when these little spaces have something pretty happening! See more of our house decorating progress HERE if you please!  xx- Sarah  {planter via Gilt, plant is a snake plant)

HERB ROASTED ALMONDS

It’s a very mature food blogger that can write about warm salty nuts without falling into the innuendo trap.  I’m OBVIOUSLY one of them.  However, if you should want to leave some innuendo-laden post title suggestions in the comments who am I to judge?  I do love to laugh!  Can we all agree to take life a little less seriously today, to have a chuckle over some childish humor while munching on some warm salty nuts?  I think we should.  XX- Sarah {recipe after the jump}

HAPPY {BLACK} FRIDAY EVERYONE!

For my state side friends, how was your Thanksgiving?  Ours, well it was something like a romantic comedy.  We have family in town visiting from the east coast and a couple of complications arose that led us to needing to have our Thanksgiving celebration outside of the house.  So we found a great park and Lou and I hauled an entire Thanksgiving feast to be enjoyed on a picnic table there.  We were determined to make it a special, beautiful and delicious meal for our family.  We had one of those days in the kitchen when everything just seems to go a little bit awry, but we’d made it and were fully ready to just enjoy!  We layed out all the food and everyone piled it onto there plates.  The sun was shining, Thanksgiving was saved, it was going to be perfect. {more after the jump}

IN NEED OF AN INTERVENTION

Someday I’ll wear something with color again.  Someday.  Maybe in the Spring, when the flowers start to bloom. Until then I’m like Dorothy before she reaches OZ.  And I may or may not have just taken advantage of Shopbop’s insane sale to scoop up even more b + w goodies!  I think it’s time to stage an intervention.  Please. xx- Sarah

HOUSE UPDATE: THE DINING ROOM!

We have a little snippet of progress that I’m so excited to share!  Last Friday our new dining table arrived, just in time for the holidays!  We went back and forth on tables, but really I’ve wanted this Saarinen tulip table for as long as I can remember so we went on a long search to find the best possible reproduction that we could.  And I think we found it in this Mobital table we purchased from AT HOM.  I couldn’t be hapier with the quality and we got extra lucky with an amazing slab of marble with really incredible lines!  We also replaced the neglected womb chair in the corner with a campaign dresser we snagged on One Kings Lane.  Still to do:  We’re having the bookshelves painted white, replacing the bird painting with a black and white photo (TBD) and swapping out the light over the dining table.  It’s so fun to see it coming together!  More soon…. xx- Sarah
