I know you’re looking at this and thinking “Has Sarah spent the weekend stranded on a deserted island smoking weed?! OMG!” The short answer: No. BUT, if I had, this is most certainly what I’d want my rescuers to feed me on the helicopter ride to safety! Because you guys, PEANUT BUTTER CUP CHEESECAKE! Let me elaborate on this: a crispy chocolate crust, peanut butter cheesecake, chopped peanut butter cups and a chocolate drizzle. If you’re still reading this and haven’t rushed straight to the kitchen to whip this up than you’re a better human than I. xx- Sarah
APRICOT BALLS ALL UP IN MY MOUTH
I’m plan to get through these upcoming months with the following coping mechanisms: humor, Instagram, daily naps, Pinterest quotes and APRICOT BALLS!!! That’s right, I’m relying on those things and YOU. I hope you’ll be with me – if you have a joke you’d like to leave in the comments (ANY DAY), it’s wildly appreciated. If you see something funny that you think might make me smile- by all means, PLEASE SHARE!!!! If you want to make these apricot balls and get them all up in your mouth, PLEASE DO! We’re all in this together (and these balls are seriously delicious)! HAPPY FRIDAY! xx- Sarah

AND THEN- THIS RECIPE SWOOPS IN AND SAVES THE DAY! A five ingredient, super simple, throw-together breeze of a dip that TASTES LIKE IT CAME FROM THE ARTICHOKE GODS. Hello my dear friends, just wanted to pop in for a quick thank you for all of your heartfelt responses to yesterday’s post! I responded to each and every one, and if I could have hugged each and every one of you I totally would have! Sometimes life is so good it’s unbelievable. You gave us that feeling yesterday, in the midst of some trying times. I wept reading your comments, your stories, your words of encouragement and support. I am so grateful to you. Tomorrow I’ll be back to my regular antics but thank you so much for being with us through this. We feel so supported by our community- both online and off. I couldn’t ask for anything more. xx- Sarah {image via}
THIS IS LIFE
We were supposed to fly out to Bali tonight (thank you so much for all of your jet-lag tips and well wishes on Friday’s post!). We’re going to postpone our trip, and I have to explain- it would be weird at this point not to. I haven’t written about what’s been going on in our family life because it feels so personal, and we’re right in the middle of it, but I think we need your support and I’m certain many of you have gone through similar experiences. Last year around this time Lou’s father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. At the end of summer he had surgery and we were all hopeful that it would help keep the cancer at bay. Unfortunately at the end of January we found out that it had come back and any further care would be palliative. Palliative. Hospice. Metastasize. There’s a whole new language to be learned when cancer comes into your life, it’s an education I wish for no one.
Pancreatic cancer is aggressive and one of the worst, from what we’ve been told. We’ve been going back and forth to Florida since his diagnosis every chance we get- which we feel so fortunate to have been able to do quite a lot. Our plan had been to move Lou’s dad in with us after our Bali trip, but some test results over the weekend made it obvious that we would be unwise to delay his trip, so tomorrow Lou will be flying back to Florida to get him. He’ll be spending the rest of his days, however many they may be, with us here in Palm Springs. We’re looking forward to caring for him and loving him through the rest of his life. I feel like a robot typing this, I’m not ready to really write about what it all means and how it all feels. For now the facts are all I can offer up. But someday I hope to write about this experience- the beautiful, the messy, the real. In the meantime, please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. I love you, and thank you. xx- Sarah
HOUSE UPDATE : DINING ROOM AND BEDROOM
Well this was a long time coming! Here’s the progress we’ve made on the bedroom- a few really exciting changes that bring some life to the room. First up, we chose this rug from Lulu & Georgia to bring some coziness and color to the room. We couldn’t be happier with it! And to bring in even more color I found these amazing pillows from Anthropologie and printed out one of Lou’s photos to hang on the wall to tie in all of the colors. We swapped out the nightstands that seemed a bit small for the space (see the before here) with these from a local store and replaced the comforter with a linen duvet cover. It’s seriously luxurious and is holding up so well (we’ve had it since last summer). The poufs, from Overstock, are the perfect spot to throw the pillows when we sleep. It’s become such a sanctuary for us, we couldn’t be happier with it! I’ve been keeping the vases filled with farmers market flowers and grasses that I cut from our yard and a local canyon. Having the freshness in the space makes such a big difference. See below for our dining room update- it’s a pretty exciting one!
