I know, after my grand proclamation about doing a reset in August and eating really clean, I come back with a cocktail post. BUT, in my defense, this was made a week ago. And I don’t want those who aren’t swearing off booze this month to suffer! In fact, I want those people to have an extra one (or two) of these in my honor (don’t worry, these posts will keep coming without missing a beat). And for anyone joining me in a really squeaky clean August, this is when Pinterest comes in extra handy! And omg they are tasty so whether it’s now or months from now you absolutely MUST make! For those of you joining me for the month of clean eats, I’ll be back later today with a recipe roundup that will have you SO HAPPY you decided to join me, I promise! xx- Sarah {this post was produced in collaboration with Sarah Dickenson for A House in the Hills}
Eat Clean August!
Oh man, I’ve eaten so many cookies over the past few months it’s legitimately crazy. And even thought most of the time I make cookies that are healthier than the average- well they’re still treats and should be eaten as such, instead of as substitute for breakfast, lunch and dinner (insert guilty emoji face here)! And cookies are really just scratching the surface- I’ve truly let my sweet tooth get the best of me in such a major way! So I’m doing a reset in August because even my favorite kale salad has started to sound MEH and this peanut butter cheesecake situation, well it sounds way better than even my favorite healthy foods. My taste buds are out of whack, sugar (even maple syrup or honey) is throwing my system out of balance and I want a fresh start.
I’m starting the month with a couple of days of juicing, followed up by 30 days of CLEAN EATS! What this means for me: tons of veggies, fruits, grains, beans, nuts, seeds, and the enormous variety of things I can make from a combo of all of those. I’ll be saying see you later to ALL processed foods, sweeteners (even the good ones like maple syrup & honey), dairy (my occasional dairy indulgences have definitely become less occasional and I need to get that back under control!) and I’m going to limit my alcohol consumption to a glass of wine here and there. Do you all reach points like this where things have gotten a bit out of control and you need a major commitment of some sort to help get back on a healthy track? Are any of you at that point right now and feel like you want to join me? (for non-vegetarians you could easily add your regular healthy meat/eggs into the mix if you wanted). These things are always easier when you’re not in it alone! All of my recipes for August will be CLEAN EATS friendly- fruit, veggie and grain heavy. I’m looking forward to a clean slate! Hope some of you will join me! xx- Sarah {Photo Via}
White and Blue and Summer All Over
This outfit is the thing my Summer dreams are made of: lightweight, breezy, fun. I just don’t understand why there are any other seasons?! I kid, I kid! Kind of. I love Spring, Winter and Fall, don’t be sad weather lovers! But I probably would live in perpetual Summer if I could. Which is a big part of the reason we moved to Palm Springs. I sometimes joke that it’s really a perfect #caftanlife here in the desert, and that I’m a wildly happy muumuu wearer. Remind me of this come the end of September when I’m complaining about wanting to cozy up in furry oversized sweaters, ok? Sometimes I fall trap to that grass is always greener thing! #muumuusforever xx- Sarah PS- I just made some major updates to the shop page, pop over and see what else is on my absurdly long wishlist!
Shop this outfit: Skirt: Rebecca Minkoff, shirt: Viva Aviva, shoes: Brian Atwood (sold out but another color I love here and a similar style I love here), bag: Chloe, sunglasses: Karen Walker, bracelets: Giles & Brother, Kristen Elspeth, Alexis Bittar, rings: Losselliani, Jules Smith
Inspiring Spaces- Hamptons Edition
How incredible is this house in the Hamptons? I can imagine spending my Summer evenings hosting fabulous dinner parties around that dining room table and taking long soaks in that incredible tub! It’s a house where one could live a very sophisticated and adult life, no? A life that maybe involves a lot of fine wine, historical novel reading and a deep appreciation for the arts. Am I right?! Here’s to a rich fantasy life… xx- Sarah {Images via }
Heirloom Tomato Bruschetta
Have I told you about my love of heirloom tomatoes and how I dream of someday moving to Greece (or Italy) and spending my days growing the most luscious varieties of tomatoes? That smell that your fingers takes on when you pluck one from a plant- it’s my favorite! It’s the epitome of Summer for me, that smell, and a juicy bite into a warm, fresh tomato. I always think I can taste the sun and the air and the earth. They’re heavenly. And I prefer to eat them with the simplest preparation, like these sweet little bruschetta! I hope you love as much as I do. xx- Sarah
Elizabeth and James Dress Goodness
I’ve had this adorable Elizabeth and James dress for a few months and I wear it nonstop (on casual days with these booties or these sandals). I wore it to meetings in NY a couple of months ago and had my most embarrassing moment of 2014 when, after getting out of a cab, it somehow got caught up in my jacket exposing my bum to the entire city on a massively busy street corner. WHOOPS! And, WHY DID I NOT FEEL THE DRAFT?! It happens to the best of us? Please tell me it does! And many thanks to the kind girl who came up to let me know I was flashing, I owe you a big one. xx- Sarah
