the truth about style posts, and these pants of course

lately i’m all into putting my hand behind my head or in my hair when we’re shooting, and concerned you think my no shampoo experiment has gone awry i think it’s best i just address it and clear the air.  i promise, my scalp is fine.  it’s the having my picture taken thing, that’s where the trouble comes along.  you see, these posts may look like they’re all fun and games, but in reality they’ve been the source of a few marital squabbles and can make me feel painfully self conscious and bring out my extra awkward side (hence, arm in strangely contrived positions).

WHY DO THEM you ask?!  well, i also really love sharing my style with you guys and there are shoots where we have a lot of fun (usually when i’m kicking dirt or spinning in circles).  sometimes it just feels like a game of dress up!  and from what i’ve heard from chats with other blogger friends who do these posts as well, the awkwardness and occasional marital spats are all just a part of the torture fun!  so, if you see another photo of me with my hand posed uncomfortably atop my head, now you know.  i can’t help myself.  and my scalp is fine.

now that the nonsense above is out in the open, let’s talk about these pants.  these pants that i stalked like a LION IN THE SERENGETI.  (remember this?)  yes, i waited patiently until these bad boys went on sale (only $108!) and then snapped them up as quickly as i could press “add to cart”.  i just love the slit detail, don’t you? if you’re interested in snagging them for yourself i recommend a size up from your normal j brand size.  xx- sarah

    I so feel you on that! Everything from feeling awkward to arguing… I guess it's part of the blogging contract we sign?

    Hahahahah- Gawwwd. I can only imagine. My husband takes THE worst photos of me. I practically ripped his head off a few weeks ago at our son's college graduation as all the pics he was taking SUCKED ASS and I looked like I had 5 chins and was crossed eyed. (i'm not and only have maybe two chins) I just wanted ONE nice pic of the proud Mama/Happy Son moment for god sakes. Just ONE! Can you try the solo-self portrait with the clicker remote thing and get some peace?

    @jennifer… that's hilarious! unfortunately it's not him, it's me. i'm just awkward. and then he tries to get creative and i get crabby. not cute! πŸ™‚

    @elaine- thank you!!

    love the pants! i do shoots for my etsy shop and more often than not it ends up with some sort of mini-conflict between my boyfriend and i. first off, he's totally not a photographer, though it usually works out all right. it is fun though!

    Haha I have come to hate doing outfit posts because it always ends in an argument. I think my husband thinks you can just pick up a camera and shoot and it will all turn out okay. We're forever arguing because he hasn't noticed the tiny details that drive me so mad, like the piece of hair stuck to my lipgloss or the fact that he hasn't bothered to check that my eyes aren't closed in every single photo!
    You're photos always look beautiful though so your other half must have some idea of what he's doing!
    And you're lucky to be blessed with that gorgeous natural lighting that apparently only happens in America as we don't seem to ever get any here in the UK (I think it's called sunshine?)

    I'm definitely more comfortable behind the camera than in front. But want to share my pregnancy on the blog, it's been interesting to say the least. But thankfully my best friend is absurdly patient with me. Hands are just so weird! Where do I put them! Who stands like this?! What do you mean drunk walk towards you??? πŸ˜‰

    Haha! I just started blogging and haven't been able to bring myself to do a style post yet. Having my BF take just an instagram pic of my outfit one day made me feel SO awkward, I started doing a weird robot dance. I think you're good with the hand behind the head thing. πŸ™‚ and I'm completely obsessed with your pants.

    This post made me laugh, because we can all relate to the feelings of self consciousness. But for what it's worth, you look fabulous. And when you're 60, you'll look back and think you looked like a super model in these photos. Easier said than done, I know. But try to be easy on yourself during your next shoot. You look awesome!

    Hi Sarah! Just wanted to let you know how much I love your blog πŸ™‚ Coincidentally, my photographer boyfriend Brian Sorg is friends with your husband! I was making your peanut butter/sea salt cookies and he saw the blog up and realized that. Too funny. Small world πŸ™‚ Also, those cookies are always epic hits, and I've tweaked the recipe by adding in a banana and it's a nice flavor. Have a great weekend!

    i don't feel so bad about my squabbles, now! it's funny, i have a certain "look" i'm going for and Mark wants to do his own thing and be "creative". So far, we haven't produced something that I looooove, but we're working on it. Plus, we know nothing about photography, so we're learning from our mistakes.
