These ladies are all explemplifying everything that is so badass about neutrals, right? Color me smitten, I can’t get enough! I’ve rounded up some of what I consider to be netural essentials below. I am seriously considering building my entire closet this year around neutrals and throwing in little pops of color via accessories. Hope you love! And before I go, I want to thank you all for the amazing comments on Friday’s post and for sharing your own stories with me. As always, I’m humbled that such an amazing group of women are reading A House in the Hills! Thank you. xx- Sarah
Today I want to talk about body image, media, and the culture of ideals that we live in. It’s something that weighs heavy on my mind always, but that I’ve been struggling with more lately. I’m seeing an acupuncturist and an Ayurvedic doctor to treat some health issues I’m contending with (more on that another day, but please don’t worry all will be well!) and they’ve advised me to eat exclusively cooked foods, to eat an abundance of protein via nuts and seeds, and to generally just incorporate more fat into my diet to gain strength. So I have. And my body is doing things, it’s changing. With these changes have come an extra 5 or so pounds that I’m carrying around to prove it. I’ve been dreading shooting style posts because I can be very cruel to myself when I’ve gained weight. I’m human, we gain and lose weight. It happens, right? And when I see it happen to those around me I recognize it for what it is- life. And harmless. But with myself, I beat myself up. I say things to myself that I would NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS say to someone I love. {more on this after the jump}
Do you know what’s better than caramelized shallots? NOTHING ON THE PLANET EARTH EVER! At least that’s what my mouth told me after I scarfed down this bowl of soup. Yes, I scarfed it, but I shouldn’t have. It’s not the kind of soup you should scarf down, because peeling sunchokes is laborious and caramelizing shallots just so takes time! It’s the kind of soup you should eat delicately (no slurping!) with a pinky lifted. Whilst drinking champagne and perhaps talking about current affairs. But important current affairs like state of the housing market, not like Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian’s divorce. Save that talk for a bowl of chili, OK? Happy eating! xx- Sarah {more after the jump}
Sometimes I think of things to make just for a reason to pull out the Siracha. That’s normal, right? Because man oh man, I sure do love that spicy goodness! And today’s excuse to eat it was this broccolini fried rice. Which, as it turns out, was pretty insanely delicious even without it. In case you have an aversion to the hot stuff! (but WHY?!) Hope you love! xx- Sarah {more after the jump}
I’m busting out of my neutrals obsession this week! I eased into it with a bit of plaid and now I’m full force with this hot pink skirt! Ok, I admit, it’s a bit of a Barbie moment. But that makes the 5 year old inside of me squeal with happiness! Now that I think of it, this is something I would have imagined myself wearing back when I used fashion plates to create my fantasy future closet and spent my hours daydreaming about my dream career as leading psychologist to the stars. I guess that whole psychologist to the stars thing didn’t pan out (OMG!) so it’s probably a good thing that I’m honoring my inner tween with this outfit. Now if only I had that private plane I always fantasized about! Maybe next life. xx- Sarah {more after the jump}
Oh gosh you guys, this noodle bowl. It’s everything! And these shiitake mushrooms- salty, rich, such good texture and flavor. Trust me, you’ll love this and be so happily surprised with how easy and good it is! I want to go on and on about it but the truth is that I’m watching the Bachelor as I type and as much as I want to wax on about noodles, THERE IS A GIRL CRYING IN A BATHROOM! Episode two!! And Juan Pablo. You know? So I should probably watch it, yes? Make this noodle bowl!!! xx- Sarah {more after the jump}
