my friend annie has style for miles. a los angeles native she lives in venice, surfs in malibu, has never died her blonde locks and once upon a time had a career as an actress. but that’s where the stereotypes end. she’s as smart, funny, talented and down to earth as she is pretty(!!!). love her to bits and so does everyone else who’s lucky enough to know her. i’ll be posting more of her this week, so get excited! poncho: vintage, shorts: madewell, tee: free people, shoes: dolce vita via endless, headband: UO, sunnies: club monaco
playing in austin: barton springs
by far my most favorite thing we did in austin was spend an afternoon at barton springs, a gigantic spring fed pool surrounded by grassy hills for lounging. it’s the go-to spot for locals to get cold in the texas heat, and the diving board is a rad little community in itself- everyone from teeny tiny kiddos to really impressive pro-like divers hang around it, taking turns bouncing off the board and pulling out every trick in their pocket as they spin their way into the water. it’s pretty fantastic. *last photo by lou
fire roasted tomato and kale soup
this is my favorite winter soup these days- and of course it fits the theme of our meals: easy, healthy, delicious. i promise, it won’t disappoint. i double it and we eat leftovers for days. and as you can see from the kitchen picture, there’s hardly any mess to clean up {and i am like a tornado in the kitchen!}.
the what:
2 tablespoons evoo
1 cup diced yellow onion
4 large garlic cloves, roughly chopped
1 (32-ounce) box low-sodium vegetable broth
4 cups packed chopped kale
1 (14.5-ounce) can organic fire roasted chopped tomatoes
2 large carrots, chopped
a few shakes of red pepper flakes (optional)
leftover wild rice (optional)
the how:
- in a large pot heat olive oil over medium heat, saute onions for 3 minutes and then add garlic and cook for 2 more minutes.
-add broth, tomatoes, fresh carrots and kale {now is the time to sprinkle in some red pepper flakes if you like a little heat in your soup!}.
-cover and cook until kale is tender (5-7 minutes). you may need to add a little extra water/sea salt/ pepper if the soup is too thick for your liking.
-serve steaming hot with a chunk of fresh sourdough or add some lefover wild rice to the soup to make it even heartier.
-slurp it down and love your life! *adapted from this recipe
happy halloween…. love, bean
mummies are dead, which means their tongues stick out. obviously.
happy friday, so much
this is one of the gems i got back from the film lab yesterday from our trip to austin. lou and i, two nerds in love. can’t wait to share the rest next week! have a great weekend everyone- relax, eat yummy things, cuddle your loves, and if you get a chance- have a mini dance party. or better yet: head to the ace in palm springs for this halloween party! it’s the best there is. and while the shout outs are ringing, i’d love to thank shoko and anne for their super sweet posts about a house in the hills this week, they’re the bees knees! *photo by matt rainwaters
new hallway rugs!
we found these rugs at tesoros trading company in austin and knew straight away they’d be perfect for our hallway! i’m so in love with navajo patterns. these rugs are colorful, bold, and transformed the long hallway between our living room and bedroom/offices. now if we would just center them, we’d be good to go! *it should be noted that we have a big ol’ runner in our garage that we bought at the rose bowl flea market, only to come home and realize it was 2″ too wide. these navajo rugs make that rose bowl rug sting just a little bit less.
