sit & nibble

happy friday everyone!  i feel like i’ve been kind of MIA on the interweb this week. and i’ve also been really mysterious about what’s going on, which i think must be so annoying!  but i promise, details as soon as i can.  in the meantime, check out these chairs and yummies!  I II III IV and a few other things that i think you’ll like…

i think these would make my whole closet feel better

i’m going to try this recipe tonight. will report back! do you have any recipe suggestions for sunchokes?

some friends of mine are GIVING AWAY A WEDDING. how insane is that?! get on it.

we’ve started (kind of) planning our honeymoon and this is where we’re headed!

yesterday i met up with jessie, taylor and catherine at the thompson hotel rooftop. girl talk is that much sweeter with a great view.  highly recommend this spot.

i ordered this, this and this during shopbop’s amazing sale this week.

this looks so incredibly light and refreshing, i’d just want to add a little vodka to the mix!

and last but very definitely not least, i leave you with this bit of cuteness.  happy weekend!

get it girl

an opportunity landed in my lap recently that’s taking me outside my comfort zone, but i’m going along for the ride and hoping for a thrill!  i promise i’ll share more details with you soon, if i can.  what do you do when those things come up in life that both terrify you and offer the promise of a great adventure? personally, i simultaneously panic and say yes.  always, always yes. i’m reminded of that quote: “luck is what happens when opportunity and preparation meet” {may or may not be an actual quote from an actual person, google is failing me} so my dear friends, WISH ME LUCK!  *photo by me for RUE Magazine, styling by the lovely Catherine

romp it real good

i’m getting all posey-poserson in this romper, i think this casual style calls for some fun!  i love few pieces of clothing more than those that make me feel like i’m wearing pajamas all day (which, truth be told, i usually am….it’s a side effect of working from home). and, please don’t hate me, but i got these shoes for $50 marked down from $200…and they were the last pair & in my size…and i had been stalking them since the fall.  i know, that was shameless bragging, but you have to understand that NEVER happens to me! i’m a pretty popular size in shoes and clothes, so usually i have difficulties finding anything in my size, never mind the last pair in a killer sale. so, for today, three cheers to me and my good luck! if you would like to try your own luck shopbop is offering a great sale right now!  {enter the code BIGEVENT and get 20% off on anything in the store!} and anthropologie is having their semi-annual clearance sale too! my fingers, toes and eyes are all crossed for you}  *i’ve decided to embrace the ridiculous post-naming…i hope it’s agreeable.

red quinoa & sun-dried tomato salad

one of our favorite things to do on the weekends is have picnics in our backyard- music, beers, good food, sunshine. it’s the best way we relax. a few weeks ago we got a salad from lemonade that was so amazing that i had no choice but to recreate it and add it to our summer rotation. and in doing so i learned just how easy it is to make your own sundried tomatoes, and how insanely tasty they are compared to the store-bought kind. you must make this sald.  must.

the what:

11 ripe vine grown organic tomatoes (or 3/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes)

2 tablespoons of basil, finely chopped

2 cups of cooked red quinoa, chilled

1 cup of halved cherry tomatoes

1 1/2 tablespoon walnut oil

1 tablespoon mirin (rice vinegar)

1 tablespoon agave syrup

1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

sea salt

olive oil

the how:

slice vine ripened tomatoes in half, scoop out all seeds and slice into 3/4 inch pieces

place on pan for baking with skin side down and sprinkle liberally with sea salt

let the slices sit with the salt for 10 minutes, it will help to dry out the pieces and shorten your baking time

preheat oven to 150 degrees (i used a toaster oven since our conventional oven didn’t go that low)

drizzle olive oil over slices and bake for 6-8 hours, or until they have dried out!  * these can be stored in a jar with olive oil and used on sandwiches, in pasta dishes, on salads, with  couscous… they’re perfect with pretty much anything!

place the sun-dried tomatoes in the fridge to chill.

for the dressing: in a small mixing bowl combine walnut oil, mirin, agave syrup, apple cider vinegar and 1 tsp of sea salt

in a medium serving bowl combine quinoa, cherry tomatoes, basil, 3/4 cup of chilled sun-dried tomatoes, and dressing.  mix well.  serve immediately, preferably at your own backyard picnic. enjoy!
