on the days when your hair is a frizzy mess and you’re feeling a little bloated from holiday treats, a denim or chambray shirt and red lips will take you a long way towards feeling better. there’s a little something in life you can always rely on. also, chocolate and peanut butter. you can rely on those too.
the weather here was amazing this weekend, i actually enjoyed a couple hours of sunning pool side! and please don’t hate me if you’ve just come in from digging your car out of a snowbank- i did close to 18 winters in maine, i can feel your pain. and your frozen toes. ahhhhhhh! don’t worry, this soup will warm you up.
as much as i love this warm weather it’s strange because it’s JANUARY! so to make it feel wintry in the best possible way i cooked up this carrot ginger soup. it’s my first time making a cashew cream and i apologize in advance if my next ten recipes are nothing more than excuses to drench something (anything!) in it. i’ve fallen ass over teakettle in love. i may have even proposed marriage somewhere between tasting it with a sprig of thyme and mixing in curry powder. *sigh*
our birds of a feather get together was so much fun! here’s a sneak peek of the table…cozy, colorful, girly fun. i loved every minute of it! and below are some things from around the interweb i loved this week as well. have a great weekend my friends! xx-sarah
a fantastic round up of amazing spaces on one of my favorite blogs
so, this was a long time coming. you may remember this post where we were trying to decide between two wallpapers. ultimately we decided to go with the seascape wallpaper by abigail edwards because we thought it would help create a peaceful, quiet space. and we both love the ocean and thought that the waves framing the view of the pool (not shown) in the sliding glass doors would be rad. and i think it is.
our bedroom is still a long way from done- i’d love to switch out those bedside table lamps for something hanging and gold (like this or these), get new bedding with some extra soft and textural throw pillows, a cozy rug for the floor and bring in another piece of art. and i think i’d like to see either more color or another plant. i haven’t decided. all of that will happen after we’ve traded in the patio furniture for a proper couch. it’s slow moving, but one foot in front of the other! *all sources listed at the bottom of the post, in case you’re interested!
we spent the bulk of our resources for the house so far in window coverings, a water filtration system, and a washer & dryer. fun stuff i tell you! which is why the ceiling fan and wallpaper we picked for this room felt like a real treat. i’m practicing my patience as we piecemeal this sweet home together.
{more after the jump}
there was a great debate in our house about the tv in the bedroom. i was against the idea but lou insisted that we’d be glad it was there when we got sick or just wanted to spend a cozy night in bed watching movies. he won and he’s right. it’s pretty nice, even if it doesn’t get much use. i tried my hardest to counteract the big black box by putting our wedding photos out! it’s the first time we’ve ever had photos of ourselves anywhere in the house but the fridge and i kind of love it. seeing them brings me right back to our wedding day and fills my heart right up.
hi all! things will be quiet around here today as i’m spending the day with the birds of a feather girls for our monthly flock session. i’ll be sharing the table, food and fun details i put together soon! here’s a sneak peek of some feathers i spray painted gold. stay tuned to see where they land, or follow along on my instagram for more sneak peeks!
i’ve been adding grey hairs to my mix of locks for awhile now, but it wasn’t until last night during one of those looking-too-close-at-the-mirror moments that i realized just how many. there are a lot my friends, a lot! where did they come from? when did this happen? i’d like to know! it seems they appear over night. does all the color just disappear from a strand? or do they grow in at 1000X the speed of the other hairs? these are the things i think about.
for the record, i may have moments of panic about aging but overall i think i’m pretty level headed about it. i’ve watched wrinkles appear and freckles turn into age spots without any major breakdowns. i’ve started to see my skin change into the skin that my mother has, softer and somehow thinner. it’s strange to see your appearance change as time passes, especially when you’re still as fit and able as you were before. i still feel twenty five, even if i don’t look it. but i’m choosing to embrace this new grey hair as a hint of what’s to come- an exciting future as a stylish silver fox like the lady above. because age, like life, is what you make of it. isn’t it?
living in southern california it seems more uncommon for women to age without the help of dermatologists and surgeons than not. i get it, but i also wish that we all embraced aging more. after all, it’s one of life’s inevitabilities and there’s no escaping it. every effort to do so is fighting against what is meant to be. i’m charging into aging determined to make the best of it and embrace the life i am so fortunate to have. viva la silver foxes!!!
