Well this was a long time coming! Here’s the progress we’ve made on the bedroom- a few really exciting changes that bring some life to the room. First up, we chose this rug from Lulu & Georgia to bring some coziness and color to the room. We couldn’t be happier with it! And to bring in even more color I found these amazing pillows from Anthropologie and printed out one of Lou’s photos to hang on the wall to tie in all of the colors. We swapped out the nightstands that seemed a bit small for the space (see the before here) with these from a local store and replaced the comforter with a linen duvet cover. It’s seriously luxurious and is holding up so well (we’ve had it since last summer). The poufs, from Overstock, are the perfect spot to throw the pillows when we sleep. It’s become such a sanctuary for us, we couldn’t be happier with it! I’ve been keeping the vases filled with farmers market flowers and grasses that I cut from our yard and a local canyon. Having the freshness in the space makes such a big difference. See below for our dining room update- it’s a pretty exciting one!
Lulu & Georgia is offering readers a 20% discount for the next three days with the code AHOUSEINTHEHILLS20. Happy shopping!
And here it is- our updated dining room! You may remember these shelves from here (so different, right?!) Well we finally found a painter to tackle it and after a minor headache dealing with some really bad customer service the shelves finally made it back to us- white as can be! The dining room is how I’ve pictured it for all of these months and I couldn’t be more excited! It actually looks even better in person, which blows my mind. The bookshelves feel bright and interesting and just so much more appropriate for the space than they ever were when they were brown.
I styled the bookshelves much more minimally than they were before to really highlight some of the pieces we love most. The print is by artist Sanna Annukka and that amazing copper bowl is by the incredible sculpture Alma Allen. I spread these gold urchins throughout to tie it all in and added in a selection of items we foraged from the desert to bring an organic element to it. The photo of the wave on the wall seen below was a gift from our friend Max, available here. I love the contrast of the ocean hanging in our desert home! The shelves also house my most favorite Jonathan Adler vase filled with Eucalyptus, a darling neon vase from this Etsy shop, and this gold rhino.
The last few changes I want to make involve this bird painting. I love it, I do, but it has to go. I want a giant black and white photograph there- Lou and I will make some trips to Joshua Tree to shoot sometime in the coming months and will swap it out. And then I may bring in some books or other objects to style the credenza. I love these candleholders from Crate and Barrel but think the space needs a little bit more. I’m also considering adding a couple plants beside the bookshelf and am still on the hunt for the perfect thing to live on the table. But it’s 95% done and we’re so happy with it! Hope you’ve enjoyed! Can’t wait to share more of the space as we continue our decorating adventures! xx- Sarah
LOVE the white. So open and airy. Very inspirational
Thank you Abigail! 🙂
That blue rug in the bedroom is my favorite detail. It’s such a cheerful color!
http://thatumamilife.wordpress.com – a clean eating bento blog. Japanese or Asian-inspired!
Thanks Liz! The rug definitely adds some much needed coziness to the room! 🙂

I would LOVE to know more about the wallpaper as well!
Loving the bright bursts of colour against the clean white! I’d definitely feel inspired here.
Thanks Steph! I definitely do feel inspired, and it’s hard to get me out of the house these days. 🙂

Thank you Maru! 🙂
I love your bedframe – where did you find it?
Here it is- the Tate bed from Crate + Barrel! 🙂
love the pink accents in the bedroom! Im such a girlie girl…pink is my fav. Also love the copper in the dining room with the blues…and that print on the shelving unit is definitely my style. The chairs look very chic with the furry seat cushions. 🙂 This is inspiring me to declutter. I love the way I just decorated my bedroom, but I have a tendency to want to display all my favorite things, and it ends up being too much usually.
Thanks Briana! De-cluttering is the best! We try to keep only things we LOVE LOVE! 🙂
Hi, Sarah,
The bedroom came together beautifully! I fell in love with the lights on the bedside tables. Where did you get them? (Do they give off just an ambient glow or can you read by their light?) Thanks, Carmen
Thanks Carmen! The lamps are vintage. If you ebay search “laurel lamp” you might find them! They’re bright, they work for reading although we have overhead lights so we use those most of the time. 🙂
I love seeing your house updates. This one might be my fave! I think the white shelves look much better in the dining room, and I love the color you’ve added to your bedroom.
Thank you Kevin! SO glad we bit the bullet and painted them, haven’t regretted it for a second!
So many things to love, I particularly love the accent color touches in the bedroom and those lamps–they are so amazing. I could definitely enjoy my time in the bedroom and the dinning room–happy nesting!
Thank you! We are definitely enjoying the space!
I am beyond obsessed!!!!!
Thank you Andi! 🙂
I love absolutely every inch of your home 🙂 You may have said in a previous post…but where is your dining room table from?
Thanks Lauren! The dining room table was purchased at a store here in Palm Springs – it’s a reproduction of the Saarinen table! 🙂
Love love love the dining room!
Thank you Sophie! <3
Looks amazing!!! Love the dinning room light fixture.
Thanks Lauren! Me too! 🙂
I would love to know where you found the great rug in the dining room!
I can’t even believe how gorgeous it is!
Hi Sarah. Where is that white dresser below the painting from? It looks vintage. Did you guys paint it?

Thank you Courtney!! So happy you like! 🙂
Beautiful styling! What size is your pendant light? I’m dying to get one for my own dining room but can’t decide on an appropriate size for the space…
Thanks Victoria! Ours is the largest one (19.7″) 🙂
I am absolutely obsessed with your dining room! It is stunning. I would like to do the same (i am guessing) sheep skin with my chairs. Did you buy the rugs somewhere or did you cut the full rugs to shape?
Sorry and another question 🙂
Where did you get those candlesticks on your dresser?
Hi Sarah!
The rooms look great. Just wondering where you got the light blue patterned pillowcases closest to the headboard of the bed? The ones under all of the other pillows. Love them! Subtle and just enough color. Any info that you have on them is much appreciated! Thanks!!
where is that copper light from?!?? Help!
I love the purple Sanna Annukkah. I have a couple of her prints. Love her. I love your blog.
