BIG BEAR LAKE ADVENTURES

The getaway we took to Big Bear Lake to celebrate my birthday was all that I could have asked for- a family adventure that satisfied my soul.  We’re soaking up these last weeks of summer with everything we’ve got!  More of our vacation snaps after the jump, if you’d care to see!  XX- Sarah

We rented a pontoon boat for a couple hours of fun on the lake!  It was so easy to drive and we were able to see the entire lake, spend some time drifting in the middle of the lake with the engine off and if it hadn’t been so windy we would’ve snuck in a swim.  Next time I think we’ll pack a picnic lunch and tack on a couple more hours. We’re already plotting a trip back with some friends, and I’ve got hopes of giving stand up paddle boarding a go!

We started our day with an early morning hike and had the trail to ourselves!  Bean went ape.  She loves nothing more than running amuck in the woods.  And Nugget was a short legged champ, she refuses to let a little thing like her small stature stop her from fully enjoying the great outdoors.  Family hikes are the best!

Our first night in Big Bear we watched the sun set over the lake.  Nothing beats fresh air, a sunset, and the quiet that only a sleepy little mountain town can provide.  Big Bear, you have our hearts.  Hope to see you again soon!

    thanks everyone!

@mandy- yep, pups were on the boat (you can see them in the photo where i'm facing away from the camera and they're peeking over the side of the boat!) :)

as for where we stayed, this is the spot: http://www.quailcovelodge.com/
it was one step above camping. :) but they're somewhat pet friendly (dogs are allowed, but not on the bed and never to be left in the cabin alone. for our purposes (a place to sleep), it worked. would love to hear any other reader recs though!

This looks amazing! My husband and I just got a dog a couple months ago and I can't wait to be able to take trips like this with the three of us. Only problem is that we can't trust our pup off leash yet! :)

LOVE! omg the hikes with the dogs are the best. that's exactly how my two are. kenzie wants to sniff every corner of the woods while emmy just struggles to keep up with her little legs! the best. that pic of lou and bean is too much!

I love pontoon rides–I didn't know it was so easy to be your own captain on one. We usually sit back and enjoy the ride! Glad you had a deliriously happy birthday!

What a sweet, sweet trip! My pup is now 6.5 months old and I think he's ready for a trip like this. (And a swim in the lake since he's a water-loving golden retriever!) Did you camp or stay in a dog-friendly accommodation?
