so, how bout that couch!

today i’m giving you an embarrassing little peek into our living room, nearly 5 months after we moved in. yes, that’s patio furniture covered in mis-matched sheets (because i don’t want the dogs to ruin the white sunbrella covers…i promise i’m not the type to wrap my furniture in plastic.  usually.)  and i can’t be bothered to style the coffee table, hang art or otherwise decorate it because really, it’d be putting makeup on a pig, as the saying goes (for the record, i love pigs).

remember when our living room looked like this?  me too!  *sigh*  but moving into our own home and then starting pretty much over from scratch with the decor isn’t cheap.  so we had to sell our old couch to afford our new couch. and our new couch is taking FOURTEEN WEEKS to get here.  and it took us 12 weeks to find a couch that would work with the awkward layout of the room- so i figure when all is said and done we’ll have spent the first seven months in our new home with a patio furniture couch.  it’s a glamorous life we’re living.  :)

i’ll be excited to share some of the decor changes when they start happening. it will be fun to see this empty space transformed, one piece of furniture and decor at a time.

@SHB i know, i'm sorry! :) love that couch! i like really simple, clean modern lines like that. it's perfect! have you checked room and board?

ok this makes me feel better… I've been going through the same exact thing in our new house. None of our existing furniture works like it did in the old house — and everything I want is so expensive so we have to go at it bit by bit. I picture a styled coffee table but it's a stack of magazines and video game boxes at the moment… and I have sheets on a sofa too because it's light grey and the dogs were making a mess out of it :).

@jeanine, yay! so happy to know someone else is in the same messy boat. :) i think it will make it that much sweeter when our homes are actually decorated, don't you?

I have been in a tiny apartment for a year and there are only little corners that decorated. Even in those corners, I still want to do more things. I get it! Not to mention the expenses of new furniture and new art….slowly but surely I will get it decorated. Probably just in time to move into a house.

haha we are dealing with similar situations! we just moved to a new apartment and didn't have a sofa to start with and ours won't be here until almost christmas! we are either sitting on our dining chairs or using a blow up air mattress – so glamorous!

Love the new door! And I swear my spaces won't be finished until I'm 60…it all takes SO long! So don't sweat it =] looking forward to an update!

Hey Sarah – even your patio furniture looks stylish !! Look at the coordination with the darks and lights. I think it kind of looks cool :)
Since I think you are kind of the epitome of style – do you mind sharing what new couch you are getting ? I have been on a hunt for over a year and nothing seems quite right yet. Thanks !!

Yes. Everything is a little too pouffy for me at R&B :)
    Checked there, DWR, BoConcepts, CB2.
High taste, lower budget not helping !
I can't stop staring at your couch – haha. Now I am screwed ;)

If it makes you feel any better our rental flat still looks like student digs after over a year of living here. Your couch doesn't look too bad. Just think of it as summer inside :)

We have the same patio furniture as you! Except it's actually on our patio….
