LIGHTING DECISIONS

Our new dining table should be arriving ANY DAY NOW!  You should be able to gauge my level of excitement by the use of caps, but if you can’t I’ll tell you this:  I’M REALLY FREAKING EXCITED!  I’ve dreamt of this table for more years than I care to admit (it ages me).  I can’t wait to share it with you!!  I’m also on the hunt for a light to hang above it.  So I figured I’d pull together a few I’m interested in, just in case you too are on the hunt (or would like to squirrel this away on Pinterest for future reference).  I’ve also tried to find a few different price points.  But let’s be honest, I’ve got champagne taste.  Good champagne.  Expensive, good champagne- the kind where you don’t waste EVEN ONE DROP.  And there’s no going back.  So you’ve been warned, only one of those lights would be budget friendly.  Now tell me, if you will, which is your favorite?!  xx- Sarah  1 // 2 // 3 // 4 //

A VERY EXCITING HOUSE UPDATE!

I have to preface this post with this:  I AM KIND OF FREAKING OUT!  Ok, not kind of.  TOTALLY.  Totally freaking out.  You guys, this is our living room!  Remember that masking tape installation?  Yep, it’s been realized into the floating drawers and giant mirror of my dreams.  It’s SO satisfying to see something I imagined for so long (my entire life and 15 official months, to be exact) come to life!  I’ve written about all the details of the update below, including sources for everything I can think of, and even more of everything after the jump!  xx- Sarah

One of the very first things I decided on when we bought the house was these floating drawers, which I designed, agonized over wood & stain options for and then had a local carpenter build and install.  And I’ll admit- I hugged the carpenter after he installed it.  It’s unfortunate he was as uncomfortable as a cat in a bath in that moment, but I couldn’t contain myself!  It was $350 for the done deal, just in case you were imagining the worst!  It’s not inexpensive but I think it’s perfectly reasonable for a piece of custom furniture. And it makes that entry way an actual ENTRY WAY, instead of an awkward door in our living room.  And that, my friends, is impossible to put a price on.  Impossible!

HOUSE UPDATE: THE BAR CART

I was reluctant to put a bar cart in our house, they’re so trendy right now and I’m just not that much of a booze hound (anymore).  But Lou really REALLY enjoys his sazeracs, and I really REALLY needed something to fill this awkward bit of space at the end of our kitchen counters, so when I spotted this baby from Target it was a done deal.  Filling up those little spaces makes the house feel so much cozier, so much more lived in, so I’m super happy to welcome this little cart to our home!  We’ve got extra exciting things happening around here with the decorating and I’ve been sharing little sneak peeks over here, can’t wait to share a big update soon! Sources at the bottom for as much as I could wrangle up.  Happy Friday friends!  xx- Sarah

HOUSE UPDATE!

Well, it’s been awhile.  And there’s been a few changes.  Not many, but a few.  I’m really excited to tell you that we’ve financially recovered from the house purchase (and all of the miscellaneous expensive-but-not-fun purchases that come along with it like a water softener and window coverings) and are moving forward full steam ahead with the decorating process!  I’m going to share every step along the way with you, so I figured it’s best to start with a current state of things photos.  Here’s what’s new….

That painter-tape art exhibit- it’s amazing, right?!  So abstract and unexpected.  NO!!!!!!!!  I used the tape for a visual gauge of size for the floating drawers and giant round mirror I’m going to install there.  Do you see where I’m going?  The mirror will make the size-challenged room feel bigger, the floating drawers will create an entryway with the front door right there and will also serve as a place to put pretty things and store less-pretty things!  I’m also plotting what should go underneath the drawers to distract from the grate but still allow air to flow through. Two of these tables are on there way, compliments of Target and the Threshold Fall Trend Collection.  I’m hopeful they’ll be perfect. You can’t beat that price, right!?  {more after the jump}

FOR SALE: DINING TABLE AND WOMB CHAIR!

I have exciting news!  We’ve finally recovered, financially (and emotionally, but I’ll save that story for another day), from our couch purchase and are moving on to decorating the rest of the house!  I can’t wait to share!  In the meantime, we have to let go of our dining table and womb chair, neither fit in the space (the dining table is too small, the chair is too big).  SO, our loss will be someone else’s gain!  Details after the jump.  And a recipe post coming up later today!  xx- Sarah

the couch, the couch!!!

as promised, here it is: the couch we waited seven long months to call our own.  two more months and we could have had a baby.  HA!  but in all seriousness it was totally worth the wait.  it’s the right size and style for the room which is a bit of a decorating challenge due to it’s shape and layout (see more here).  and although having a custom couch made was an investment, a nerve wracking experience and something i might not be inclined to take on again, i think for this room it was the best option for us.  so friends, welcome to our living room where you can now SIT ON ACTUAL INDOOR FURNITURE!!!!

i know you’ve also got your eye on that credenza, which is a fabulous loan from our friends max and margaux. it’ll get us by until we tackle stage two of operation living room make-over.  and the rug, that’s new since this sad update too.  it brings in the warmth and coziness i wanted to help balance out the concrete floors!  next on the list is pillows (which we’re going back and forth on because i’m thinking the ones we have are working out pretty well for the moment) and a coffee table.  can’t wait to share more with you as we move forward!  xx- sarah

*edit:  the rug is from anthropologie (sold out), the morroccan wedding blanket is from here, the neon vase is from here, the fringey throw pillows are also from anthropologie and the pink pillows are from a recent trip to tulum.  hope that helps!
