INSTAGRAM, ANOTHER GIVEAWAY AND SOME LINKS!

I’m so happy to see the amazing response to the Pressed Juicery giveaway.  Every time I email a giveaway winner to let them know they’ve won I feel like Santa Claus, it’s the BEST!  So I’ve decided to do my own giveaway- I think this is going to be so fun!  This giveaway will run entirely on Instagram, from today until November 8th.  To win: post a photo on Instagram of a recipe from or inspired by A House in the Hills and tag me (@sarahyates ).  Lastly, hashtag it #ahouseinthehills . It’s that simple, easy peasy!

The winner will be announced on November 11th and will receive a selection of my MOST FAVORITE KITCHEN GOODIES.  I’ll show the final package before it goes out, but in the meantime just know it will probably include this and this and this, among a carefully curated selection of other things I think are bomb.  I’ll spend the next month hunting down the perfect things to go in the winner’s care package.  FUN! This giveaway is open to all of my readers- if you have a mailing address I can ship a package to, you’re in.  Worldwide.  YES!! I’m so excited for this!  I love seeing your culinary adventures on Instagram, I love giveaways, I love gift giving, I love love love the idea of having an Instagram community of healthy eaters!  I AM BIG TIME INTO THIS!!!!!  I hope you are too.  Have a great weekend friends!  xx- Sarah {links for your weekend entertainment after the jump}

HOUSE UPDATE!

Well, it’s been awhile.  And there’s been a few changes.  Not many, but a few.  I’m really excited to tell you that we’ve financially recovered from the house purchase (and all of the miscellaneous expensive-but-not-fun purchases that come along with it like a water softener and window coverings) and are moving forward full steam ahead with the decorating process!  I’m going to share every step along the way with you, so I figured it’s best to start with a current state of things photos.  Here’s what’s new….

That painter-tape art exhibit- it’s amazing, right?!  So abstract and unexpected.  NO!!!!!!!!  I used the tape for a visual gauge of size for the floating drawers and giant round mirror I’m going to install there.  Do you see where I’m going?  The mirror will make the size-challenged room feel bigger, the floating drawers will create an entryway with the front door right there and will also serve as a place to put pretty things and store less-pretty things!  I’m also plotting what should go underneath the drawers to distract from the grate but still allow air to flow through. Two of these tables are on there way, compliments of Target and the Threshold Fall Trend Collection.  I’m hopeful they’ll be perfect. You can’t beat that price, right!?  {more after the jump}

SOBA & CARROT NOODLES WITH WATERMELON RADISH

One of my tips for cooking- choose ingredients you think are beautiful and design your dishes around color! In this instance, watermelon radish.  Aren’t they amazing?  I don’t even really care that much for radish, but how could I not use these beauties in a dish!  And I’m so happy they did.  The meal was Lou approved (the true measure of tastiness in this house) and the only regret I have about it is that I didn’t make twice as much.  Did you read that?  DOUBLE THE RECIPE IF YOU’RE SERVING A HUNGRY HUSBAND!  xx- Sarah  {More after the jump!}

PRESSED JUICERY, A GIVEAWAY!

My friends, I’m soooo excited to announce that today I’ll be giving away two cleanses from the amazing Pressed Juicery!  Lou and I recently completed a 4 day and 6 day cleanse, respectively.  I’d planned on doing 7 days and Lou had planned on doing 3, but he didn’t want it to end (!!!!) so I gave him one of my days.  I’ve done quite a few juice cleanses but it was brand new to Lou, and it was so fun to do it together! GRAPHIC SWEATER LOVE

When I finally accepted that Winter is going to come whether I like it or not I picked up this amazing sweater to comfort myself.  I know, I live in the desert and the length and intensity of our Winter would make most of you in colder climates laugh out loud.  But I’m a thin skinned lizard who starts to shiver at the littlest hint of cold!  My strategy for surviving this winter is simple: graphic, cozy sweaters & these amazing boots that my sweet friend Farra gifted to me.  With those in my arsenal I’ll be excited for cooler days and won’t go to my default winter behavior: piling blankets on myself, lounging on the couch eating soup and watching bad reality tv.  Or so I’m telling myself.  {more after the jump}

CELERY ROOT PUREE WITH HERBED BEETS

I shared this recipe on Camille Styles yesterday, but it’s such an extra-delicious one that I want to make sure it gets into the archives over here too.  Let me tell you, celery root puree may just be my new favorite thing.  Just typing the words makes me salivate a little.  That’s totally normal.  Try it, you’ll see!  Paired with these earthy roasted beets, tons of fresh herbs, a rich and delicious olive oil- it’s downright decadent.  Happy weekend friends, hope yours is a tasty one!  xx- Sarah  {more after the jump!
