MY GET- HEALTHY MACRO BOWL

i’ve been under the weather.  to put it bluntly, which i think is appropriate at this time, crohn’s is a real asshole of a disease (you can read about my background with it here).  it likes to kick you when you’re down, sneaking up and overtaking your life at the most inopportune times.  not that there’s ever a good time to get sick, but you know what i mean.  {more after the jump}

BELUGA LENTILS, GRILLED ASPARAGUS & TAHINI DRESSING

i’m not sure if this is best served as a side dish or a meal.  we ate it, happily i might add, as a dinner.  but if we had chickens i might put an egg on top and i think that would take it to another level.  {why don’t we have chickens lou mora?!}  well either way, egg or no egg, side dish or dinner, we loved it.  and i think you will too.  so give it a go, it’s super easy!  and beautiful to boot.  not to mention that lentils are packed full of iron, protein and essential amino acids.  in regular speak that means they’re the business that keep you healthy, full of energy and looking good.  you like that?  yes, i thought so.  eat up!   xx- sarah

SPINACH, BEET AND QUINOA SALAD

i think sometimes i forget how FREAKING BEAUTIFUL whole foods are.  i mean, look at this plate?!  it’s gorgeous right?  and so simple, packed full of nutrition and flavor.  beats the hell (no pun intended) out of some processed crap that comes out of a box (not sorry kraft).  so let’s do this friends, let’s eat more meals that look like this and none meals that look like this.  ok?  good.  i’m so glad we’re on the same page!

THE PERFECT SUMMER SALAD

our amazing and talented friends juan and farra helped with the food for lou’s birthday party (god i love them!).  and when i was in panic mode and couldn’t come up with an idea for a salad to serve with tacos they suggested a watermelon, watercress, pepita and cotija salad with a lime cilantro vinaigrette.  genius, right?  i left out the cotija to keep it dairy free but it’s amazing with or without. light, refreshing, healthy, full of flavor and so easy to throw together!  what else could you want from a summer salad?  hope you love as much as i do. more after the jump!  xx- sarah

GREEN BEAN AND TOASTED ALMOND SALAD

green beans are coming into season and i couldn’t be happier!  this salad is surprisingly hearty and i’m pretty sure i ate about 3 lbs of it in a sitting.  SO GOOD!  the toasted almonds give it this smoky flavor and the mustard vinigriette gives it a little kick.  i think you’ll be surprised by how delish it is.  green beans, i celebrate you.  hope you love!  xx- sarah

HOMEMADE MUSTARD

so, it turns out MUSTARD DOESN’T GROW IN JARS!  who knew?!  i kid, i kid.  kind of.  because although mustard has been a favorite of mine for as long as i can remember, i had zero idea where it came from.  a store shelf…..i knew that much, but nothing beyond.  until recently. i was reading the ingredients on the mustards trying to choose the one with the least crazy sounding stuff and make sure no one was getting sneaky and putting sugar in my mustard.  and in reading these labels i realized – mustard is made of like 2-3 things.  and i thought, I CAN MAKE MY OWN!  which is exciting for a girl who had previously never pondered the origins of one of her favorite condiments.  and so, five minutes after reading a bit about mustard on wikipedia i was off to the races on my first batch.  i think it turned out pretty damn good (after a few days of sitting, which settles some of the spiciness).  will you try it?  it’s SO easy!  xx- sarah {more after the jump}
