Is Silicone Render the Same as K Render?
If you’re looking to render your home, you are likely doing a whole bunch of research into the different types of render that are out there. You might be finding yourself a bit stuck, debating whether it’s better to go with traditional render or a silicone render, or whether K render is the same as silicone render. With tips from MisterRender here’s what you need to know.
What Is K Rend?
K rend is a brand of silicone render that you can use on your external walls in place of other brands of silicone renders. It is designed for application in order to protect against the weather and to provide a smooth coloured finish that improves the appearance of a property. It is not, as some people assume, a render system or to be confusing with architectural rendering.
K rend is one of the most popular brands of silicone render in the UK, and is highly respected by most people for that reason. Silicone rendering is often considered one of the best types of render, and k rend silicone render is a top-tier product.
Why Are Silicone Renders so Good for External Walls?
Silicone render is a modern render material, and it is used up and down the country. It has a high price tag, but people are willing to pay it in order to do up their external walls. So what makes silicone render so good? Why is K rend silicone such a popular product?
K Rend Silicone Render and Other Brands Are Water Repellent
All silicone render is water repellent, much more so than other render materials like cement render. This is incredibly useful as it can stop things like water vapour which can cause cracks, unattractive algae growth, fungi, and dampness.
This water-repellent property is due to the chemical makeup of silicone and it means that the material is much less susceptible to weathering and is much more water-resistant than other popular renders. It is more likely to be able to withstand harsh weather conditions than other renders or bare brickwork and will be able to continue to act as an external wall insulation system because of its water-repellency.
Silicone Render Is Much More Low Maintenance
K rend silicone render (and other brands) are relatively easy to apply. It is not too labour intensive to apply silicone renders to your home. You will need to pick a day there is not too much moisture in the air, but also avoid high temperatures. You’ll need to clean your external wall to prepare it for silicone rendering, and then you can add your base coat. After adding the base coat you can add other layers, but be sure to wait 24 hours and only apply the render in a thin coat so that it dries quickly.
Once applied and dried, silicone render is easy to keep clean. You can just wash your silicone render with a low-pressure washer and either detergent, fungicidal wash or just warm water. The hydrophobic properties of the silicone render also mean that it will need painting less than other render materials.
Silicone Render Is Breathable
Silicone render is sometimes compared to acrylic render, but silicone render is much more breathable than acrylic render is. This helps to further enhance its weather resistance, as it allows any trapped moisture beneath the render to evaporate as water vapour rather than develop into cracks or wet patches in the render.
K Rend Silicone Render Offers a Coloured Finish
With most other renders you will have to use coloured paint in order to change the colour of your home. But with silicone render, you can actually get a render that dries the colour of your choice. K rend silicone in particular offers a range of colours for you to choose from.
K Rend Silicone and Other Silicone Renders Offer a Subtle Finish
Some renders are very easy to spot, especially older renders like pebbledash. K rend silicone and other silicone renders are much more subtle, though. They offer a natural-looking finish that will improve the exterior of your property without making it stand out like a sore thumb or make selling it harder in the future.
Silicone Render Lasts
Silicone render has gained popularity in recent years not only for all of this but also for the fact that it really lasts well. Silicone render, when applied correctly, can last up to 30 years! It also tends not to need painting very often, and since it is one of the most low maintenance renders, it is much simpler than having to rerender or update your home on a regular basis.
What Are the Other Options?
If silicone render is too expensive for you, you might want to consider some of the other options. They are:
Acrylic Render
Acrylic render is easy to apply, relatively flexible, fast drying and attractive. It is one of the most common rendering materials after silicone render and is highly recommended by many.
It is, however, just as expensive as silicone render and is not as breathable.
Lime Render
Lime render is very traditional. It’s been used for such a long time, and whilst people are starting to move away from it, plenty of properties still have lime render on them! It’s a good insulator and has natural bacteria repellency as well as some ecological benefits.
However, it takes a long time to apply and it sets very slowly. It is not as breathable as the more modern renders and as such can suffer with damp problems.
Cement and Sand Render
Cement and sand render is not really used very much anymore. It is very inflexible and cracks frequently, and can lead to a lot of damp problems. It is arguably one of the least recommended render systems out there.
