HAPPY {BLACK} FRIDAY EVERYONE!
For my state side friends, how was your Thanksgiving? Ours, well it was something like a romantic comedy. We have family in town visiting from the east coast and a couple of complications arose that led us to needing to have our Thanksgiving celebration outside of the house. So we found a great park and Lou and I hauled an entire Thanksgiving feast to be enjoyed on a picnic table there. We were determined to make it a special, beautiful and delicious meal for our family. We had one of those days in the kitchen when everything just seems to go a little bit awry, but we'd made it and were fully ready to just enjoy! We layed out all the food and everyone piled it onto there plates. The sun was shining, Thanksgiving was saved, it was going to be perfect. {more after the jump}
We were no more than two bites in when we heard the unmistakeable sound of a sprinkler starting up. Two feet from our table. One of those industrial ones that's meant to water huge areas in a giant stream that I'd liken to a fire-hose. That's right. We got soaked. At one point I yelled "GRAB YOUR PLATES AND RUN!!!" But it was too late. Water flew over the food, the backsides of Lou and I soaking us as if we'd just stepped out of a shower, and all the work we'd put into trying to make sure everything arrived HOT to our Thanksgiving picnic gone in a flash.
I may or may not have broken down and cried. It's a story we'll laugh about for years to come, I'm sure. And a reminder that life is unpredicatable, outside of our control, and sometimes all one can do is try to roll with the punches. We ate our slightly soppy and cold meals together, laughed about how I had messed up BOTH pies, and tried to live in the gratitude that at least we were together, healthy and filled with so many blessings in our lives. It was so far from the Thanksgiving I imagined and tried so hard to create but filled with so many lessons for me that I suppose it was exactly what I needed. I hope yours were less eventful, more delicious, and equally filled with love.
Now, instead of a Friday link roundup I've put together a list of sales happening in the next few weeks for you. I plan on comforting myself with a little retail therapy today! Have a fabulous weekend full of delicious leftovers my friends! xx- Sarah
