Ojai Fixer Inspiration

Happy weekend my friends!  I am SO happy to tell you that every last item on Alyssa’s wishlist was purchased in just over 24 hours.  YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!!!  Truly, thank you from the very bottom of my heart.  There is nothing better than a good solid reminder that you belong to a community of like-minded, big-hearted, kind and gorgeous people.  I’m humbled to be a part of this.  And Alyssa…excited and grateful doesn’t even begin to cover her feelings.  Let’s just say there were lots of {happy} tears on both our parts.

Now, onto the business of being inspired!  I’ve become a reinvigorated Pinterest maniac lately and one quick look at my pins will show you what I’m feeling the most these days: neutrals, organic materials, clean minimalist modern design.  And most of all, WOOD.  I’ve been trying to convince Lou that we can never have enough wood (that’s what she said!) . Right now we have plans for wood floors, wood cabinets, wood beams on the ceiling and wood windows!  Ahhh!  It’s a dream come true!  My dream home is in the forest, but there aren’t really “forests” to speak of in coastal southern California so I think covering every surface in wood is my attempt to create that forest-house feeling.  Ok, so here’s some spaces that are really inspiring ours…. what do you think?  xx- Sarah  {so much more after the jump}

    I love the look of lots of wood, so cozy.
    In Canada people refer to houses with a lot of wood as a “bowling alley.”
    My husband and I don’t care, and love lots of wood and plants. Next best thing to living rogue in a forest!
    Enjoy your planning, can’t wait to see the final results, no doubt it’ll be beautiful!

      hahaha! well I love bowling alleys so maybe that’s why I’m such a fan! 🙂 . I’m with you, if I can’t live in the woods, I want as many natural elements in my home as I can manage!
      I AM SO EXCITED to share the final result with you one of these days! xx

    I love natural materials and wood. I think it works well in design when mixed though – for example, the wood cabinets on the perimeter with a white kitchen island. I guess I’m not sure how I feel about wood windows. I keep seeing them but I find them distracting to the eye. But I am in the firm camp that if doing what you love in design is always in style.

      IT’s so funny you said that, last night I started second guessing the wood windows and started considering doing black aluminum. Those are even more distracting in my opinion. Windows and floors have been my most challenging decisions! But I agree- if you love it you MUST do it if you can! 🙂

    LOVE the white diamond/cube tiled kitchen wall and its open feel – I am a fan of tiling the entire wall instead of just a backsplash or partial walls only to the edge of the counter as so many do, it looks unfinished to me. Also love the corner kitchen island shelf detail. I like lots of white light with light wood.

      I love that wall of tile as well!!! I don’t think we’re going to have any tile in our kitchen, just a big piece of the counter material behind the stovetop for a splash guard. I hope I don’t regret that (if I do I suppose it won’t be too much trouble to tile after the fact – at least I don’t think it will!)
      But if I do end up tiling at some point it will 100% be the entire wall. Although I don’t mind the tile divided by the floating shelf in that one kitchen….it’s nuts how many options there are and how many decisions you must make during a renovation!!!! 🙂
